Ethics & Sustainability

Operating responsibly is a priority in everything we do.

Design

Our intention is to design styles of superior quality and longevity, which respect the materials they are made from and minimize waste. For example, our shoe bags and scrunchies are made from the smaller pieces of fabric left over after cutting our lace skirts.

Materials

We utilize deadstock, leftover sample cuts, locally-sourced fabric, recycled fibers, and other lower-impact materials whenever possible. Here are a few suppliers of fabrics and trims we use to create our lace skirts, dancewear and accessories: Klauber Brothers, Blue Moon Fabrics, Ribbon Connections, Offray Ribbon, Steinlauf & Stoller, Pacific Trimming, and Har-Man Beads, among others.

We do not and will never use any materials of animal origin.

Fiber Pollution

Modern dancewear is almost always made from synthetic fabrics like Nylon, Polyester and Spandex blends. They’re quick dying, comfortable and durable, however we now know that these plastic-based synthetic fibers can shed during laundering and pollute our waterways.

Because not washing your sweaty dancewear isn’t exactly an option, Entrechat Dance has partnered with Guppyfriend® to offer their patented filtering wash bags for your dancewear. These bags can help reduce the amount of microplastics that your tights, leotards, and and other dancewear shed in the laundry. Bonus feature is that it protects these delicate fabrics and can help them last longer! Win-win!

Made to Order

The majority of our lace skirts and dancewear are created to order, just for you, by me, in my home design studio. Making our skirts to order is a somewhat slower process, but it is less wasteful of resources and allows me to be more conscious in my usage of materials.

Print on Demand

Our collection of graphic t-shirts, sweats and other printed apparel and accessories are created by our printing partner on demand, so we do not engage in wasteful overproduction, and can offer a wider variety of styles and sizes. Additionally, we choose blank garments for our graphic designs that have at least some traceability and sustainability claims, whenever possible.

Suppliers for blank garments and accessories to be printed: SOL’s, District Clothing, Cotton Heritage, Econscious, Meikeda Photo USA.

Packaging and Shipping Materials: In-House Design Studio

Items made in our in-house design studio are all shipped in 100% recycled paper mailers with 100% recycled tissue paper sourced from EcoEnclose. (Depending on the shipping method, some items are shipped in USPS Priority or Express Mail mailers , which are also made from recycled sources.) Additionally, we have transitioned to EcoEnclose’s zero waste shipping labels, which have fully recycled and recyclable backing paper.

Hang tags are attached with 100% cotton string rather than plastic attachments. We are currently investigating the source of paper used on our hangtags and will update this page when more information is available.

Packaging and Shipping Materials: Print on Demand

Unfortunately, we have less control over the shipping materials used by our printing partner. They recently began the transition to 100% Post-Consumer Recycled poly mailers and 30% Post Consumer Recycled interior polybags for their USA orders. While this plastic packaging is not ideal, these mailers are a step in the right direction. We humbly request that you re-use or recycle these mailers after receipt. Drop off locations can be found at www.bagandfilmrecycling.org

Extended Responsibility

If any of our lace skirts, dancewear, shoe bags, etc should ever require repair, please contact us, and we will send you a quote or recommendations.
